That little word called Faith

Faith.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”  Hebrews 11:1

I don’t believe I’ve ever been as challenged with this fruit of the Spirit the way that I have been these past 5 months.  It has taken on such a deeper, more personal meaning.  Scriptures that I’ve read seemingly a million times are cutting deep into my heart and showing me how much more God’s truth needs to truly take root in me.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”  Hebrews 11:6

I’m familiar with what the Word says about faith and so many of the promises that our Father has given us.  It’s just a little different when deadlines are right around the corner, and you realize that you really don’t have control of things.  The pressure is on, but there’s simply no way that I can make everything work out.  It’s during these times that we’re left with a choice to make.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

Almost every day, and sometimes it seems like every moment of the day, I can feel anxiety begin to rise in me and so many worrying thoughts threaten to take control of my mind.  I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I let them, and I end up feeling completely helpless and defeated and like things are spinning out of control and time is running out with no way to fall into place in time.  Then He reminds me of what He’s already said.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”  I Peter 5:7

Lately, I feel practically driven to Him.  I desperately need Him.  I absolutely cannot force things to happen.  He’s continually asking me to trust Him.  I say I do and then the next second I’m back inside my head again, thoughts running wild while my heart-rate rises and tears threaten to take over.

“I know that You can do all things; no plan of Yours can be thwarted.”  Job 42:1b

I’m finding that I have to continually remind myself of who God is and what He says.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28

Jesus continually reminds us not to worry.  He invites us to trust Him.  He calls us to more than just lip service; He wants us to actually walk in faith.

“We live by faith, not by sight.”  II Corinthians 5:7

So let’s encourage one another today and remind each other of God’s goodness and faithfulness to us.  He knows us, and He loves us so very much.  Let’s rest in Him today.
